Given a clear brief, I can write in pretty much any style, from a technical manual to a magazine lifestyle feature. My experience includes blogging, technical writing, PR and tweeting on behalf of various organisations.
Web copywriting
I put together a monthly email newsletter for EONS (the European Oncology Nursing Society). This is a mixture of news, events and useful resources for oncology nurses. I also keep the news section of the EONS website updated. I also have experience of search engine optimisation. Recent clients include iCAN Experiences and Oxford Private Medical Practice. I have the skills to help your target audience find you online.
Social media
I run the Facebook and Twitter accounts for EONS. I also tweet for Sustainable Witney and Oxford NUJ, among others, on a voluntary basis. Do you need a professional to live-tweet your event and/or blog about it afterwards? During the public inquiry into the Cogges Link Road, I ran the @WitneyFirst Twitter account single-handed, live-tweeting almost every day of the inquiry and blogging about each day afterwards. My reports, on the Sustainable Witney website, are still the only publicly available daily record of the enquiry.
PR and press releases
My first PR job was in the communications office of the Diocese of Oxford, writing press releases and acting as first point of contact for journalists’ queries. My time at the Diocese of Oxford coincided with a period of unprecedented press attention for the diocese. I regularly do small, one-off PR jobs such as writing a press release or writing an introductory letter. I am currently volunteer communications officer for Oxford World Development Movement (WDM), which involves writing press releases, handling press enquiries and keeping the website up to date. I was also part of the Cogges Farm volunteer communications team until very recently.
Technical writing
I helped to write the user instructions for the content management system used by Sesame Ltd. I wrote the “tips and tricks” section, which helped users through the idiosyncrasies of the bespoke CMS. I updated the help instructions for RationalMedia 2, the content management system created by Torchbox. I’m very interested in usability.
Advertorial and ad features
I’ve written many advertising features for the Newsquest Oxfordshire stable of publications, including the Oxford Mail, the Oxford Times, the Herald series (South Oxfordshire) and various supplements such as the magazines In Business and Limited Edition. I’ve also written advertorial copy for the advertising clients of Newsquest Oxfordshire and Leys News.
