I wrote about the Green Deal and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for two trade magazines in the property sector: Commercial Moves, The Estate Agent and Agreement (a magazine for letting agents). These magazines were both run by Propertymark under its previous name of NFOPP (the National Federation of Property Professionals).
It’s supposed to “revolutionise the energy efficiency of British properties”. It will change the way private landlords invest in their properties. So why isn’t everybody talking about the government’s Green Deal?
By now, EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) are a familiar part of the rental process. They were introduced by the Labour government as part of HIPs (Home Information Packs), which were criticised for introducing unnecessary bureaucracy to the property sector. Since EPCs came into force in 2008, we’ve become used to arranging energy performance assessments and adding them to the particulars of rental properties.
